Though I’ve posted about the best organic chemistry books before, I feel it’s also important for me to highlight some of the best study guides you’ll find. I’ll start with a short bit on Pushing Electrons and Organic Chemistry As A Second Language as these are both very good resources and do fall within the realm of study guides, but I’ll spend the majority of the post discussing the various workbooks and other extra organic chemistry practice materials available. Keep in mind that these are not replacements for your textbook and molecular model set, but instead they are supplements that may prove to be invaluable.
Pushing Electrons and Organic Chemistry As A Second Language
Now I know I’ve touched upon these two books before, but they are so important that I’m going to mention them again briefly for any newcomers to this site. Pushing Electrons and OChem As A Second Language both explain the underlying principles behind the science. The methods to the madness, if you will. They explain the concepts of electron movement and resonance in a simple to understand manner and will provide a foundation for learning the complex reaction mechanisms that come up later in the course.
Organic Chemistry the Easy Way
This inexpensive study guide provides brief summaries of important organic topics and has questions to work. Sometimes additional questions that you find in supplementary texts such as this can be the most valuable as you’ll get to understand concepts through different wordings. It provides your brain with a new novel way of learning the material that may help it be better recalled come test time!
The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Organic Chemistry
Since you’re taking organic chemistry you’re definitely not an idiot, but you’ll still find this book helpful. It’s by no means a replacement to your textbook, but it’s topical summaries ant outlines can be a great additional resource that you may want to consider.
Organic Chemistry I For Dummies
Finally we come to Organic Chemistry 1 For Dummies. This book will help explain reaction mechanisms and also touch upon important general chemistry concepts that you may have missed. If you’re having trouble in orgo it’s definitely a resource you’ll want.
